Re: Trivia

Hey Chuck,

I really don't have a clue but wanted to take a crack at this.....I know there was a guy in Govans named Harry Weidifield, (not sure of spelling), around other Corps at the time who was an ancient style drummer.  It would be a long shot but that's my only guess since I don't go back that far with the Corps.  I'll check back to see who answers this correctly.

BTW, great job with starting a "Trivia" section.

Re: Trivia

Well Billy thats close.I believe Harry Weidifield may have predated me, but when I joined in '57 the Learner drums were taught by John"Flib-a Dip" Larry. Another link that Harry Weidifeild had to St.Marys was his Nephew,Harry Schultize played 1st soprano up to about 1961.

Re: Trivia

Wow, I would never have guessed it.  I was taught by Harry W. When I was in the Tecumseh Tribe 108 Parade Corps.  Funny thing is, he only knew how to teach rudiments the ancient way.  When I came over to St. Mary's, I didn't know that rolls were played on both the right and left hand alternately.  I had a heck of a time adjusting to this.  It was very frustrating but I practiced my A&&S off to be able to cut the line when Mojica came in in late 1964.  My first field show was the TV 2 show.  I was so proud that I was able to do that that until this day, it is one of my best memories of my Drum Corps. days.  Also, Walt C. was responsible for this as he brought me over to join St. Mary's in the first place.

I wish others had responded to your post but keep it going and I'm sure somebody will.

Thanks!  --Billy--
